How to Get Beautiful, Shinier and Healthier Hair

Bad hair day? Allow us to change this.

Whether your locks are dull, dry, brittle, or listless, we’ve got the right hair care practices for you. The result? Healthy hair that’s soft, shiny, and ultimately flawless.

As much as we believe that true beauty comes from within, we cannot deny that how we look on the outside affects how we feel on the inside. And that’s why we advocate spending time (and money) on your hair – so that you can walk with your head held high and a spring in your step!

Did you know that –

74% of women say a bad hair day makes them feel less confident?

And on that note, we’re about to give you all the confidence you need with these 10 handy haircare habits that we encourage you to adopt

ONE – Make Friends with Your Hair StylistImage of a blonde girl with long, wavy and shiny hair.

Finding a brilliant hairstylist and then establishing a relationship with them can do wonders for your tresses. The stylist can get to know your hair, how it reacts to certain styles and products, and he or she can help you to create a routine that’s going to work best for your type of locks – so that those hair goals are reached!

Trimming your hair frequently is also a good idea. Regular trims will remove dry, damaged areas and split ends so that your hair instantly feels smoother and healthier. * Remember, a trim doesn’t have to be very significant, even just snipping off half an inch will make your locks feel fresher.

TWO – Up the Omega

Certain nutrients have proven to improve hair health, with omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids sitting at the top of the list. Your body uses these nutrients to nourish strands from the inside out. Feast on omega-rich foods such as mackerel, sardines, avocado, walnuts, and flaxseeds. Or – if these food sources don’t tantalise your tastebuds, visit your local health store for omega capsules.

THREE – Stop Shampooing Your Hair Every Day!

We are by no means endorsing dirty hair, we’re just trying to save your locks from unnecessary harm. Unless you work in a coal mine or frequently partake in mud wrestling, your hair shouldn’t need to be shampooed e.v.e.r.y day.

Washing less actually preserves shine. It gives the natural oils that your scalp secretes time to do their job. So, if you can, try to limit cleansing to two or three times a week.

Rossano Ferretti Parma has a fabulous Dry Shampoo that adds volume and body to hair for a fresh and energised look.

FOUR – Opt for a Sulphate-Free Shampoo

While sulphates haven’t been deemed harmful, they do have a tendency to clean hair so thoroughly that they strip your scalp and strands of natural oils. The result is hair that’s super-clean but also super-dry.

Rather opt for a gentle sulphate-free shampoo that cleanses but also helps to restore moisture.

FIVE – Give Gloss a Go

If you’re looking for instant shine, then a glossy serum or oil is the way to go! For example, Brillante Oil uses a rich concentration of natural oils to add a glossy sheen to hair, without leaving any greasy residue. We also love this product because it protects hair while making it look healthier; it blocks UV radiation and reduces heat and environmental damage.

SIX – Turn Off the Heat

We know that there may be many occasions where blow-drying and heat-styling is necessary. However, if you can keep heat on your hair to a minimum, then all the better. Heat styling can wear away the cuticles of your strands, so they become dry, frizzy, and prone to breakage.

If you simply can’t live without your dryer, straightener or curling tongs, then make sure to use a protective heat styling product on your locks to reduce damage.

SEVEN – Rinse with Cold Water

Unlike warm or hot water that opens the hair shaft leaving it exposed and vulnerable, cold water seals and smoothens the hair cuticle. So, if you get into the habit of rinsing with cooler water after shampooing and conditioning, you’ll actively be locking in more moisture and adding shine.

EIGHT – Indulge in a Moisturising Hair Mask

Apply a hair mask or a deep conditioning treatment to your hair at least once a week so that you can infuse your strands with moisture and shine.

Formulated with natural ingredients such as coconut oil, avocado and shea butter, Vita Rejuvenating Hair Mask brings resilience, softness and vitality back to fragile and lifeless hair.

NINE – Sleep on Silk

Sounds divine, right? As luxurious as this sounds (and is), it’s also practical. By resting your head of glorious hair on silk each night, you protect the cuticle of your hair by reducing the amount of friction between your tresses and the fabric.

While we don’t recommend brushing your hair too often (definitely not “100 strokes” as ye old wives’ tale suggests), we do encourage you to brush your locks often enough to ensure that those natural hair oils are distributed for natural shine. Use a soft detangling brush or a boar bristle brush so that you can detangle and smoothen your tresses without snagging and breaking your strands  (a luxury detangling product can help with this too).
