How to Get Rid of Frizzy Hair?

We’ve all seen those perfectly smooth and sleek hairdos that the celebrities adorn as they walk down the red carpet. But when you attempt this designer-look, you’re left with stubborn flyaway strands and frizzy locks that refuse to be tamed. So, the question is – how on earth do they do it? How do the celebrities and top models maintain hair that’s frizz-free and ultimately glamorous?

At Rossano Ferretti Parma – we’ve got the answers! Our stylists have attended to many individuals who often find themselves in the spotlight and today, we’re going to share some of our secrets and advice with you. We want you to feel just as fabulous in the hair you’re in without the frustration of “frizz” keeping you from your hair goals.

But first – the basics!

What is “FRIZZ”, exactly?

When we talk about frizz, we’re referring to the annoying strands of hair that stick out from your locks. These erratic strands are typically shorter, curlier, and dryer than the rest of your tresses and just won’t let gravity do its thing by staying put.

What Are the Causes of Frizzy Hair?

Before we discuss how to tame frizzy hair, perhaps we should get to the root of the problem – pun intended! Let’s look at what makes hair frizzy in the first place.

  • Humidity. Moisture in the air is a number one frizz-forming culprit. Why? It all comes down to science! Our hair is incredibly sensitive to hydrogen, which damp air has loads of. So, when this hydrogen forms a bond with the water molecules and proteins in your strands, the reaction causes your hair to go haywire (frizzy).
  • Dry hair. If your hair is very dry, then it will constantly be on the lookout for moisture. The result? Unwanted frizz!
  • Damaged hair. If your hair is broken, it’s probably also dry. Habits such as styling your hair with hot tools, colour-treating it too often, over washing it, or using harmful products can dry out hair and damage it.

So, How Can You Get Rid of Frizzy Hair?

  1. It Starts with a Quality, Sulfate-Free Shampoo

When selecting a shampoo, look for products that include nourishing and smoothening properties (such as macadamia and avocado). A sulfate-free formula is also important because sulfates strip natural oil from hair, leaving strands vulnerable and dry. And, as we mentioned, dry hair = frizzy hair.

A professional sulfate-free shampoo will maintain your locks’ natural oil levels, leaving them softer and with more moisture.

  1. Always Use Conditioner

A good conditioner can go a long way when it comes to keeping your hair smooth and tameable. That’s why it’s important to apply it after every shampoo wash. This way, you’ll keep the cuticles of your hair hydrated so that moisture can penetrate deep into the strands. The more moisturised your hair is, the less likely it is to stray in search of moisture from the air.

*Make sure to choose a conditioner that’s rich in hydrating ingredients, such as shea butter.

  1. Deeply Moisturise Your Hair with a Penetrating Hair Mask

Applying a hair mask or treatment to your hair once or twice a week is another way to keep your hair hydrated so that your hair cuticle doesn’t open up to let moisture from the air in, which, as we explained, is the biggest contributor to frizzy hair.

Try Intenso Smoothing Mask by Rossano Ferretti Parma for a luxury hair-moisturising experience. This award-winning mask uses naturally derived ingredients such as shea butter, almonds, and vegetable proteins to smoothen even the most difficult hair!

  1. Try to Give Your Hair Time to Dry a Little on Its Own Before Blow-Drying It

Allowing your hair to air dry 50% before whipping out the blow-dryer is one way to let it dry without disrupting the hair strand, which helps to keep it soft and smooth.

While hot hair styling tools can cause damage and frizz, using a blow-dryer on hair that’s almost dry can minimise the risk – especially if you keep the device on a low temperature setting.

*Tip: Use a hair-dryer diffuser extension to limit the amount of direct heat and forceful air hitting your hair.  The result is hair that’s been exposed to less friction which, in turn, means less frizz!

  1. Invest in a Luxury Hair Oil

Celebrities manage to maintain smooth hair because they know which products to invest in. For example, the right type of hair oil will fight frizz by smoothing out the hair while adding gloss and shine to it at the same time – for that ultimately chic look.

In this regard, we absolutely adore our Prodigio Regenerating Oil that’s been lovingly crafted to moisturise protect and repair all hair types. Apply the oil to wet hair so that it’s instantly softer, silkier, and more hydrated. Enriched with nourishing ingredients such as Avocado and Almond, you’ll also enjoy how supple this oil makes your hair feel!

The bottom line…

When it comes getting rid of frizzy hair, you’re going to have to put in a bit of effort. You’ll also need to invest in the right type of products to help attain the sleek, smooth hair-look you have in mind.
