Summer is the season to let go of perfect, sleek hairdos. Instead, you’ll want to let your locks air out and flow naturally. With the heat of the sun on your side, you can ditch your hairdryer and give your hair a chance to breathe and dry in its own time. This way, you can create an effortless look that compliments summer’s carefree and breezy days.
Spending time out in the sun, however, does present its own challenges. Exposing your strands to heat, humidity, and swimming pool chemicals and the sea can lead to dry and frizzy hair – and an untamed look that you may want to avoid. In this guide, we’re going to throw some summertime haircare tips your way so that you can dry your hair the natural way – but still maintain hair that’s soft, smooth, and absolutely gorgeous. Before we dive into how you can achieve the perfect beach- ready look, let’s take a brief look at why it’s important to let your air dry naturally.
Taking a break from heat tools will not only improve the texture of your hair and avoid breakage, but it will also help you to achieve that care-free flow of the season. And lest we forget all the time you’ll save as you get ready for the day! Now you simply need to head out the door and let the summer breeze do its magic. With this being said, there’s a very fine line between knowing how to air-dry hair and leaving home in a disastrously fluffy state.

Tips on how to get wavy hair naturally
Embrace your hair’s authentic beauty and natural movement this summer by enforcing these clever tips.
1. Invest in a Dedicate Sulphate-Free Shampoo
Sulphate-free shampoos are great for maintaining the natural oils on your scalp and hair. This means that your hair will be left with more moisture – which is essential if you want to maintain free-flowing hair that doesn’t look parched and frazzled.
2. Make Sure You Deep Condition
Speaking of moisture, a deep conditioning treatment is another way to keep your hair hydrated and supple during summer. Deep condition once per week and try do it more frequently if your strands are prone to drying out very quickly. Your hair will thank you for the refreshment!
3. Use the Right Products for Summer
Since you’re changing your hair care routine for the summer, it’s important that you scrutinize the products you are using to see if they’ll continue to give you the protection you need for the new elements (this especially applies if you’re going to give the natural blow dry a go). For example, to get smooth and frizz-free summertime beach wave hair, you can apply Rossano Ferretti’s: Favoloso spray to enhance your curls and/or Intenso serum to avoid frizz in thick, curly, wavy hair.

4. Protect your Hair from The Sun
Sunscreen for your hair is an actual thing. It works similar to sunscreen for your skin and protects hair from the sun’s penetrating UV rays. While many hair care products contain a UV filter, look out for more natural options, such as Brillante oil. This oil protects and nourishes hair by using natural ingredients.
5. Drink More Water and Eat Healthy Foods
A healthy diet with plenty of water is one way to give your hair (and body) the moisture it needs to maintain a nourished look and feel. This is even more important when summer has you sweating up a storm. Most doctors recommend that you drink at least 8 glasses of water a day (challenge accepted?)
6. Wash Less Often
Washing your hair too often can strip it of its natural oils. So, if your day hasn’t had you in too much of a sweat and if your hair can make it through another day without a cleanse, then we advise you to skip a wash here and there. You can always use dry shampoo to keep your hair looking and feeling clean.
7. Don’t Skip a Trim
Your ends are more likely to split if they dry out. This can lead to hair that looks ragged and frizzy – which we’re eagerly trying to avoid. We suggest that you start your summer off with a trim. The result will be hair that’s less tangled and untameable but if you do end up with slit ends then use Rossano Ferretti’s Prodigio Oil to seal the ends and protect from further damage.
8. Add Smoothness
If you want your locks to look and feel extra smooth, consider adding some more product. For example, Rossano Ferretti’s Velluto: Anti-frizz Straightener can be used to put stray hair strands in their place. Smoothing products also tend to help close the cuticle, leaving hair more manageable and protected from the elements.
9. Avoid Towels
No matter how fancy or delectably soft your towels feel – don’t let them near your hair! Rather gently squeeze the water out of your hair or use a cotton-fibre towel substitute, such as an old T-Shirt. Rubbing your hair with a towel will increase friction and frizz and it will hinder your attempt at wispy air-dried locks.
10. Put It in a Loose Braid or Bun
Putting your hair in a loose bun or braid is a way to add texture (think natural beach waves) to your hair without adding unnecessary frizz. You can then add some natural volume and style by applying a gentle summer-friendly mousse. And if your attempt at natural, blow-dried flowing mermaid hair doesn’t work out as planned – these styles are an excellent “plan B”.
Despite your best efforts, you may still have some frizz and fly-away strands. That’s OK. Summer is all about a raw and natural look that illuminates the authentic essence of human beauty. And if you simply must use a hairdryer – remember to apply a product specifically designed for protecting your hair and enhancing your blow dry rituals like Rossano Ferretti’s Dolce Spray (you’ll thank us later).
