Our Guide to Springtime Hair Care

Spring is a time of natural rejuvenation – it’s also a time to nourish your hair follicles and strands so that your lovely locks can move along with the energy of the new season.

Now, while the sunny weather may automatically lift your spirits, your “crowning glory” has endured months of winter and will probably need more TLC. You’ll also need to get it ready to brave the humidity and climate changes during the transition to SPRING!

As the days start getting longer and the breeze is less biting; it’s time to blossom with our spring hair care tips:

Invest in an invigorating shampoo

It’s not just your home that may need a traditional spring clean. Your locks are possibly also in dire need of a “refresh”. As the seasons change, it’s recommended that you change the type of shampoo you’re using.

If winter took its toll on your hair and dried it out, then switch to a sulphate-free shampoo that will gently cleanse your hair without stripping it of its natural nourishing oils. A shampoo that can infuse your hair with moisture and energise it gets our thumbs-up.

Try Rossano Ferretti Parma’s Vita Rejuvenating Shampoo for hair that looks and feels softer, stronger and vital.

And if your colour-treated hair is looking dull, then swap your normal shampoo for a formula created to revitalise and extend the length of dyes and pigments. This way, you can totally succumb to the vibrance of spring!

Hydrate your hair

If you haven’t been applying deep conditioning treatments over the past few months, it’s likely that your hair is dry, brittle, and dehydrated – and in desperate need of a moisture boost.

Treat yourself to a luxurious hair mask that can be used after shampooing to keep your hair clean and soft.

A hair mask or treatment is a must-have and can be the difference between coarse, unmanageable strands and soft lively hair that’s ready to make a statement.

Trim your tresses

Whether you feel like trying a trendy spring hairstyle or just need to rid yourself of dry and broken ends, head to your salon for a seasonal trim.

Split ends are nasty. They have a habit of splitting further up the hair shaft and are the number one cause of frizzy and untameable hair. The only way to fix broken ends is to snip them off completely! The good news is that you don’t have to lose much length for an efficient trim, so if you want to keep your locks long, simply ask your stylist to cut off the bare minimum, which can be less than an inch.

Your hair will immediately feel “lighter” and rejuvenated after a trim, you’ll also find it to be more manageable and supple enough to try out spring’s fashionable hairdos.

Refresh your hair colour

One of the best ways to put a “spring” in your step and add instant shine to your locks is to colour your hair. While any shade is permittable for the warmer months, spring and summer are a great time to experiment with lighter hair colours or highlights. Blonde tones work well at complementing a sun-kissed complexion.

With this in mind, we’d also like to raise the importance of choosing the right colour for your skin tone. So, before attempting to hit the bottle (bleach) on your own, rather approach a professional stylist for advice – just to make sure you’re going to attain the right look you had in mind.

We also caution against using DIY home hair colouring kits. Many of the brands can do more damage to your hair than good, especially if you are going to try out lighter tones. Home colour kits have a tendency of drying out hair, leaving it irreversibly brittle and prone to breakage. Instead, ask professional stylists in your area for quotes and treat yourself to a salon visit

Allow your hair to air dry

With the days becoming warmer, your hair will be able to conveniently dry faster naturally. This means that you can put down your hairdryer and reduce damage to your hair caused by excessive heat.

Hair experts suggest dabbing your hair lightly with an old cotton shirt before allowing the air to dry your locks. And when it comes to detangling your wet tresses – replace your usual hairbrush with a comb or a quality detangling brush. This way, you won’t snag your strands and cause flyaways.

Of course, spring’s natural heat can be harsh on your hair too, so you want to prepare for this. We suggest applying a protective oil or spray to your locks, one that will keep your strands safe from UV rays and pollution.

Prepare for humidity and rainy days

Along with spring comes rain, which you need to prepare for if you want to head out the door without a frizzy mane that has a mind of its own.

You can prevent humidity woes by styling your hair so that it’s less adverse to frizzing (we have loose braids, top knots, and messy buns in mind), or you can leave your locks hanging low and carefree with a smoothening serum at your beck and call.

Try Velluto Straightening Serum as a natural solution to hair that frizzes easily. Suitable for all hair types, this serum uses delectable ingredients such as sesame seed and almond protein to ultimately smoothen and de-frizz hair. Intenso Smoothing Serum is also another divine product brought to you by our in house Rossano Ferretti Parma hair expert. With over 99% naturally derived ingredients, your hair will immediately be silkier, smoother, and more manageable – it’s true!
