How to Make Hair Soft and Silky

We’ll start this guide to soft and silky locks off with a quote –

“Inner beauty is great, but fabulous hair never hurts” – Unknown

While we believe that true beauty comes from within, we must agree that having lush, radiant, and silky-smooth hair has its own perks – such as feeling utterly gorgeous. It’s this feeling that helps to instill confidence and as well as a luminescent glow that makes one stand out in a crowd.

The question is, what is the secret to optimally nourished hair? How can you make your locks soft, silky, and healthy so that you can feel amazing in the “hair you’re in”?

At Rossano Ferretti Parma, we’ve got the advice you’re looking for. We have a passion for enriched natural hair that flows gracefully – just like the Italian landscapes that we draw our inspiration from.

Our advice for soft and silky hair is as follows:

1. Don’t Wash Your Hair Too Often

Your scalp is more than skin that holds your hair together – it serves a way greater purpose. Beneath your scalp’s epidermis lies lovely oil glands that work to create sebum or natural oils. These oils are what help to keep your hair naturally soft and they also play a role in protecting your strands from the elements (such as the sun and wind).

When you wash your hair too often, then you strip these oils from your hair and scalp, leaving your locks dry and vulnerably exposed to heat and toxins from the air.

As a solution, try to wash your hair every second – or even better – every third day. This way your natural oils get a chance to do their thing

To keep you hair fresh and energized in between washes, try the elite Vivace Dry Shampoo Crème for a continuously cleansed look and feel.

2. Dry and Comb Your Hair Gentilmente ‘Gently’

For hair that’s soft and smooth, take a gentle approach to drying and combing. Instead of vigorously rubbing a towel to soak up water after a wash, blot it dry with an old T-shirt. And use a gentle detangler brush to tenderly work through knots. This way, your hair won’t break or frizz as easily.

3. Avoid Shampoos that Contain Sulfates

Sulfates are good for cleansing your hair, on the downside, they tend to remove your natural oils along with dirt and grime. The result is dry and brittle hair that feels uncomfortably coarse. Quality sulfate-free shampoos can cleanse your hair just as thoroughly and are a healthier alternative.

4. Coccolati  ‘Treat Yourself’ to a Hair Mask

A complete hair care routine should include the use of a quality mask. Hair masks are created to deeply penetrate the cuticle of your hair and then seal in moisture. After just one application, your locks will already feel softer and fully nourished.

Try Rossano Ferretti Parma’s Dolce Repair and Nourish Hair Mask for softer, shinier, and more manageable hair. This is a proudly cruelty-free hair product that’s formulated using vegan-friendly ingredients.

5. Make Olive Oil Your Friend

Most hair care products will contain a base oil that has enriching properties. However, when it comes to hydrating locks and sealing in moisture, then olive oil takes the cake! This natural resource is packed with antioxidants that help to protect hair from damage while the healthy fats deeply moisturise the strands for a softer feel.

Ricordati ‘Keep in mind’, however, that it’s best to use olive oil when it comes prepared in a professional formula. If you place it directly onto your hair, then you’ll end up with oily and weighted-down strands that are far from attractive.

For super silky olive-infused hair, “treat” yourself to Prodigio Regenerating Treatment before washing your tresses with a non sulphate shampoo. Complete your wash with a luxury moisture-locking conditioner

6. Proteggi ‘Protect’ Your Locks from Heat

If you must blow-dry your hair and if the summer sun is too invigorating to ignore, then remember to invest in a protective treatment to ensure that your strands are kept safe from hot air and the sun’s UV rays.

We simply love Brillante Protect and Shine Oil. This premium hair treatment helps to block UV radiation and assists in reducing heat and environmental damage. Inspired by summers on the Amalfi coast, this product is for the sun devotees who still want to sport lusciously soft locks.

And – if you refuse to live without your hot styling tools, Rossano Ferretti Parma’s Velluto Straightening Serum is another amazing haircare product that will help to reduce breakage while defrizzing hair fibers to make them super relaxed.

7. Sleep on a Satin Pillow

Who knew that something as basic as what you rest your head on could affect your hair?

If you want to avoid frizz and breakage, invest in a satin pillow cover to get thorough beauty sleep. Unlike a cotton pillowcase that will cause friction on your hair, a satin pillow will keep your tresses smooth and whole.

8. Nutri ‘Nourish’ Your Hair from Within

Our diets play a huge role in how our hair comes out of the follicle. So, if you want your locks to grow healthy and shiny, you need to eat well. A healthy hair diet should consist of:

  • Healthy fats that come from food sources such as salmon, nuts, seeds, and cold-pressed oils.
  • Fresh fruits and vegetables such as papaya, carrots, pumpkin, sweet potato, melon, guava, and squash – which are all packed full of vitamin A (which encourages soft and shiny hair growth).
  • Zinc. This mineral stimulates oil glands around the hair follicles, which is the ultimate treatment for your hair.
  • Plenty of water to avoid a dry and unhealthy scalp.

The Bottom Line…

The journey towards softy and silky hair takes a certain amount of dedication. The good news is that this type of dedication doesn’t have to take up much time. Most of the advice we shared above can easily be included in your current haircare rituals.

Are you ready for a more FABULOUS you?
